<idAbs>Each county dataset consists of a 10 meter resolution grid with the relative effective annual precipitation (REAP) in both centimeters and inches. The data provided here has been calibrated for individual counties and edge-matched to provide consistent values for statewide uses.</idAbs>
<idPurp>Verified, (to ppt station data) re-sampled (to dominant DEM resolution, 10 or 30 meter) sensitized, (slopes greater than 15 percent on southerly or northerly aspects appropriately adjusted to what the plants and soil development experience), therefore significantly value added 1 kilometer daymet data has proved to be very valuable in soil survey inventory activities and useful in assigning LRUs for ESD correlation. This data is being created and refined currently for soil surveys for mapping and related activities.</idPurp>

A refined version of the REAP sensitized map, using expert knowledge of assigned soil scientists as well as results from mining the county and surrounding county soils data. 2. Completed query forms designed to provide elevations where the bottom of the cryic zone comes in for a county or part of a county. This information is mined from the soil survey data and tempered by soil scientist expertise using current cryic concepts. Information provided and utilized by the assigned soil scientist include the following. a) The buffered DEM (10 or 30 meter) for target county. b) The raw REAP sensitized data, buffered for target county. c) An ArcGIS feature class for digitizing of the reap adjustment areas (polygons with factors indicating degrees of up or down editing needed to the raw REAP sensitized data). d) An ArcGIS feature class for digitizing zones where the elevation model is consistent within a county. Each zone is supported by a Frigid-Cryic Worksheet Document. e) MSAccess Category file containing Map Unit Aggregated effective ppt RV values, effective ppt range, and whether the map unit is dominantly frigid or cryic. This file is joined to the certified spatial SSURGO data to provide an excellent tool to aid in mining the soil survey data.</stepDesc>

<stepDesc>Daymet data for MT has been acquired and projected to UTM 12 and 13 zones. County processing: This MT Raw Daymet is then clipped with a 5000 meter buffer to a target county. Verification: Using available TAPS and other ppt station data, this 1K county clipped dataset is adjusted to best align to the available ppt data. Various GIS methods are used to accomplish this task. The primary reason for adjustments is that the daymet data is based on a more recent 12 year timeframe of ppt data with the NRCS using an official 30 year dataset that rolls forward periodically. Re-sampling: This county buffered, verified 1K (now starting to become valued added from an NRCS perspective) is re-sampled to either 10 or 30 meters, depending on the DEM resolution available for the target county. REAP sensitizing: ArcGIS models are executed on this now 10-30 meter data to sensitize the landscape relative to effective ppt, where, varying, depending on where in MT you are geographically located, southerly aspect actual ppt is downward adjusted, variable on degree of slope, and northerly aspect actual ppt is adjusted upward, also variable on degree of slope to yield values representing relative effective precipitation. Neutral aspects (all slopes less than 15 percent as well as neutral compass points regardless of slope) are not adjusted up or down.</stepDesc>
